Art exhibitions all over the city

At the heart of the event is an art exhibition spread across the city, bringing together a wide range of national and international artists. The triennial will comment on the different temporal and functional layers of Porvoo, infiltrating the city and confronting and challenging people in everyday and unexpected situations. In 2024, art will take over the urban space with the theme Space is a Common Thing.

27 artists from Finland and abroad

“Space is a Common Thing” is the theme of this year’s Porvoo Contemporary Art Festival. Porvoo’s cityscape is dominated by solid, high-quality exhibitions featuring artists from Finland, Cuba, Croatia, the USA and Sweden.

The space has been in the spotlight and on our minds more than ever since COVID. The space became something very personal. Public places and crowded shops suddenly felt different. Space was something we all had to relate to in a new way.

But space is much more than that, like the silence of a library or the cramped basement of a rock club, where squealing guitars take over. You might want to escape to the woods or find your own space for quiet somewhere else. A space can also be the gap between two words in a book. And space is also the cosmos.

Our Swedish curator John Rasimus has curated this year’s Porvoo Triennial together with Artistic Director Petri Hytönen. And about half of the artists are Swedish.

Thank you to all visitors, artists and everyone who worked on the Porvoo Triennial “Space is a Common Thing” 2024.
